Check an Indigo gift card balance on the Check Gift Card Balance page on indigo.ca, or in your Indigo account, after you sign in with your email.
This guide covers the online check and the in-store route with the rules Indigo publishes in its gift card FAQ and on its gift cards page, as read on 12 October 2026. It also shows how to buy a new Indigo card in Canadian dollars with crypto when your money sits in a wallet instead of a bank account.
Two details from that FAQ answer most balance questions. The card number has 20 digits and starts with 604883, and the PIN has 6 digits. Keep both in front of you before you start, because the online check needs them.

How to check your Indigo gift card balance
Open the Check Gift Card Balance link on Indigo’s gift cards page and sign in, or check from inside your Indigo account. Indigo names both in its own FAQ.
Online, from the gift cards page
Go to the Indigo gift cards page and use the Check Gift Card Balance link. When we followed that link on 12 October 2026, it opened a sign-in page on account.indigo.ca that asks for your email address and sends a single-use code, with no password. Sign in, then follow the prompts with the card, or the eGift email, in front of you.
Indigo’s FAQ confirms the two places: the link on its gift cards page, or your Indigo account. Use the link on Indigo’s own page rather than a balance site found through a search. A card number and PIN are as good as cash, so type them only into the page Indigo itself points to.
Where to find the card number and PIN
The 20-digit number is on the back of a plastic card, just below the barcode, or on the eGift email. When you type it online, enter all 20 digits with no spaces or dashes.
The 6-digit PIN sits under the scratch-away section on the back of the card, or next to the card number in the eGift email. Indigo says a PIN cannot be changed, because each card gets a unique PIN when it is issued.
A card bought outside Indigo has 11 extra digits
Indigo says a card bought outside its own Indigo, Chapters and Coles locations carries 11 digits in front of 604883, and that those 11 digits must be left out when you enter the number. If the number you hold is longer than 20 digits, start at 604883.
In a store, without a PIN
Indigo says you do not need the PIN when you buy something in person at one of its retail locations. If you lost the PIN or never received it and want to use the card online, take the card to any Indigo, Chapters or Coles store and ask the cashier to transfer the balance to a new gift card, which comes with a new PIN.
Lost cards cannot be traced
Indigo says it cannot trace or re-issue a lost gift card and that cards are non-refundable, so protect them like cash. Keep a photo of the eGift email in a private folder instead of a public chat.
What an Indigo gift card covers
An Indigo gift card, physical or electronic, pays for purchases at Indigo.ca, at Indigo, Chapters and Coles stores across Canada, and via Kobo. The table lists the rules that matter for your balance, as Indigo states them.
| Rule | What Indigo says |
|---|---|
| Where it works | Online at Indigo.ca; Indigo, Chapters and Coles retail locations in Canada; and via Kobo |
| Values in store | No set amount: from $2.00 up to $500.00, and you can reload the card in store at any time |
| Values online | Physical cards, mailed to the recipient, in $25, $50 or $100 only; electronic cards, emailed, in any amount from $2.00 to $500.00 |
| Card number and PIN | 20 digits starting with 604883, plus a 6-digit PIN that cannot be changed |
| Paying online | Redeem the card during checkout; a credit card is needed only if the order total is more than the balance |
| Refunds to the card | If you cancel or return an order paid with a gift card, the refund comes as a new gift card number |
| Plum points | You cannot buy a gift card with plum points or earn points when buying one; members earn points on eligible items bought with a card |
| Buying more cards | Electronic gift cards cannot be used to buy Indigo gift cards or electronic gift cards |
| Lost or stolen | Cards cannot be traced, re-issued, refunded, resold or redeemed for cash |
Because a card can be reloaded in store, an old plastic card is worth a balance check before you throw it out. If you hold several cards with small leftovers, check each one, spend the smallest first and keep the largest for a bigger order.
Indigo’s menu lists books, kids’ books, toys, gifts, stationery, lifestyle and games and hobbies, so a leftover balance rarely goes to waste. For more shopping brands paid with crypto, the Canada shopping gift cards hub lists every card available for Canada.
Why buy a new Indigo card with crypto
Buying the new card with crypto skips the exchange, the bank transfer and the bank card. If most of your money is in crypto, the usual route means selling on an exchange, waiting for the transfer and then paying by card.
No bank card in the loop
You pay from your own wallet or from an exchange balance. No card number, no billing address and no bank statement line are involved in the purchase on Genghis.
No KYC at checkout
Genghis asks for an email address to deliver the code and nothing else. There is no document upload, no selfie and no proof of address. Purchase limits apply, and the how Genghis works page explains the full flow.
The code arrives on screen
The code shows up once your payment confirms on the network, and a link to it lands in your inbox. How long that takes depends on the network of the coin you pick.
Eleven values, from 5 CAD to 500 CAD
The Indigo Canada card on Genghis had 11 values in stock on 12 October 2026, from 5 CAD to 500 CAD. You can pick the value closest to what you plan to spend, instead of loading a round amount you will not use.
Points on your orders
Orders placed with a free Genghis account can earn Genghis Points, and a Point is a cent at checkout. The rewards section below has the details.
How to buy an Indigo gift card with crypto in 6 steps
Open the Indigo Canada page, choose the value and coin, send the amount, and copy the code once the payment confirms. Each step in detail:
- Open the Indigo Canada page. Go to the Indigo Canada gift card for shopping in Canada.
- Pick the card value. Choose a face value between 5 CAD and 500 CAD that covers the gap between your balance and your order.
- Choose your coin and network. Select Bitcoin, USDT, Solana, Monero or another of the 300+ coins, and the network you will send on.
- Enter your email address. This is where the link to your code goes. No account is required to buy.
- Send the exact amount. Copy the address or scan the QR code and send the amount shown, adding any withdrawal fee your wallet or exchange charges.
- Copy your code. Once the payment confirms, your card details appear on screen and by email, with the steps to use them at Indigo.
Match the card to your country
This card is not a worldwide (WW) product. The Indigo Canada card works in Canada only. Check the country on the product page before you pay.
Indigo gift card values on Genghis
Genghis sells one Indigo card, for Canada, priced in Canadian dollars. The values below were read on the live product page on 12 October 2026, and the price in crypto is shown at checkout and moves with exchange rates.
| Card | Works in | Face values in stock on 12 October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Indigo Canada | Canada | 5, 7, 15, 25, 30, 35, 60, 100, 125, 250 and 500 CAD |
| Listed but out of stock that day | Canada | 10, 20, 40, 50, 75, 150, 200, 300 and 400 CAD |
Stock moves, so open the product page for the live list before you plan an order. The rules in this guide are the ones Indigo publishes for its own cards.
Shopping in Canada with crypto goes beyond one bookshop. Genghis also lists the Winners Canada gift card, the Cabela’s Canada gift card and the Safeway Canada gift card, and for e-books there is a Kobo gift card for Canada. The guide to buying e-commerce gift cards with crypto walks through the general steps.
Checking a different brand? The same method is in our guides to checking an American Eagle gift card balance, a Cold Stone Creamery gift card balance and a Tesco gift card balance.
Four ways to get a new Indigo card
Buying the gift card directly with crypto is the shortest route from a wallet; Indigo itself, an exchange or a crypto debit card also work. The table sets the routes side by side, including the one where buying from Indigo wins.
| Route | What you need | Identity checks | Where it wins |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buy at Indigo.ca or at an Indigo, Chapters or Coles store | A bank card or cash, and a store visit for reloads | Set by your card provider | Any amount from $2.00 in store, reloads of the card you hold, and mailed physical cards |
| Sell crypto on a custodial exchange, then pay by bank card | Exchange account, bank account, bank card | Usually full ID verification at the exchange | Useful if you already cash out regularly |
| Crypto debit card | A card program account and a funded balance | Usually ID verification by the card issuer | Works anywhere cards work, not only at one brand |
| Buy the gift card with crypto on Genghis | A wallet or exchange balance and an email address | No KYC at checkout, within the purchase limits | Straight from wallet to card, without a bank |
The honest trade-off: Indigo sells any amount from $2.00 in store, mails physical cards and reloads the card you already have, which Genghis does not do. A crypto debit card spends everywhere, and a gift card spends at one brand. If your money is in crypto and Indigo is where it is going, the gift card is the shorter path.
Canada ranks #2 of 79 countries on the Rails Ranking but #36 on the Livability Ranking, where need for crypto counts (Genghis Research, 2026). The payment rails are strong, so the gap for most holders is the last step from a wallet to a store checkout. The Canada Crypto Livability Index page has the full scoreboard.
Stocking up before the holidays?
The Indigo Canada card goes up to 500 CAD per code, paid with Bitcoin, USDT or 300+ coins and no KYC at checkout. Choose your Indigo value
Which crypto to pay with
Pay with the coin you already hold: a stablecoin keeps its value steady, Solana or Tron confirm sooner than Bitcoin, and Monero keeps the payment private. Genghis accepts 300+ cryptocurrencies. The amount shown in your coin at checkout is the full price and includes the exchange-rate margin. The quote holds for about 20 minutes.
Bitcoin (BTC)
The default for many holders. Confirmation takes longer than on faster networks, so the code arrives after the block confirms. The Bitcoin gift card page covers the details.
USDT and USDC
Stablecoins keep their value steady between quote and payment, which suits a card you want to price exactly. USDT on Tron adds a network cost that checkout shows before you choose. See buying gift cards with USDT.
Solana (SOL)
Solana confirms sooner than Bitcoin, so the code appears once the network confirms your payment. It suits buyers who want the code without waiting for Bitcoin blocks. The Solana gift card page has the steps.
Ethereum (ETH)
Supported on the networks listed at checkout. Pick the network your wallet actually holds the coins on, since coins sent on a different network can be lost.
Monero (XMR)
For buyers who want the payment itself to stay private. Monero adds a network cost shown at checkout. The Monero gift card page explains how it works.
How to use the code at Indigo
Enter the code during checkout on Indigo.ca, or give it to the cashier at an Indigo, Chapters or Coles store in Canada. Indigo says online redemption happens at checkout, and the card works on Indigo.ca and in its Canadian retail locations.
Enter all 20 digits of the card number with no spaces or dashes, then the 6-digit PIN. If the number on your code is longer than 20 digits, leave out the 11 digits in front of 604883, as Indigo instructs for cards bought outside its own stores.
Check the balance once the code arrives, so you know the exact amount before you build your order. Indigo says a credit card is needed only if the order total is higher than the balance, and any value you do not spend stays on the card.
Is it safe
Yes, as long as the card is for you or a gift, never a payment someone demands. A gift card is cash in another form: Indigo says it cannot trace or re-issue a lost card, so keep the code private and share it with nobody.
Read Indigo’s own terms before you buy from any seller. Indigo says electronic gift cards bought from sources other than indigo.ca, its Indigo, Chapters and Coles locations or its participating retailers may not be valid, whatever the balance at the time of purchase, and that it does not honour balances sold through unauthorized sellers. That is a reason to check the balance the moment your code arrives and to buy only where a failed card is replaced.
On the Genghis side, the security page explains how your data is protected. If a code fails at first redemption, arrives incomplete or never arrives, it is replaced, or refunded if no replacement comes within 5 business days.
Earn Genghis Points on the purchase
Yes, orders placed with a free Genghis account can earn Points, and a new account starts with 100 Points. Missions pay more Points when you spend in a category with your account, from orders of 15 USD, and a Point is a cent at checkout. Points never expire and need no KYC to earn or redeem.
They become spendable once your account has 25 USD in completed orders. At checkout you drag the slider and the Points turn into a discount before you pay. Guest checkouts do not earn Points. The Genghis rewards page has the full rules.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check my Indigo gift card balance?
Use the Check Gift Card Balance link on Indigo’s gift cards page, or check in your Indigo account. Have the 20-digit card number and the 6-digit PIN ready.
Where do I find the card number and PIN on an Indigo gift card?
The 20-digit number is below the barcode on a plastic card or in the eGift email, and starts with 604883. The 6-digit PIN is under the scratch-away section on the back, or next to the number in the eGift email.
Do I need to sign in to check my Indigo balance?
The balance link on Indigo’s gift cards page opened a sign-in page when we read it on 12 October 2026, with a single-use code sent to your email. In a store you do not need the PIN for a purchase.
Can I add money to my Indigo gift card?
Yes, in a store. Indigo says you can reload a card bought in store at any time, so you can use the same card again and again.
Can I pay for an Indigo gift card with Bitcoin?
Yes. On Genghis you pay for the card with Bitcoin, USDT, Solana, Monero or 300+ other coins, then use it at Indigo.ca or in a Canadian Indigo, Chapters or Coles store like any other card.
Do I need to verify my identity?
No. Genghis asks only for an email address at checkout, with no documents. Purchase limits apply: without an account, up to 500 USD in 24 hours and 2,000 USD in 30 days.
How fast does the code arrive?
It appears on screen once your payment confirms on the network, with a link by email. The wait depends on the coin: Solana and Tron confirm sooner than Bitcoin.
Can I pay with Monero?
Yes. Monero is supported at checkout and adds a network cost that is shown before you choose it.
Are there any fees?
The amount shown in your coin is the full price and includes the exchange-rate margin. A network cost applies only to USDT on Tron and to Monero. Your own wallet or exchange may charge a withdrawal fee.
What if my code does not work?
Write to [email protected] within 30 days with your order number and a screenshot. A code that fails at first redemption, arrives incomplete or never arrives is replaced, or refunded if no replacement comes within 5 business days, and a wrong country on our page is refunded.
Can I use an Indigo gift card outside Canada?
Indigo says its cards work on Indigo.ca and at its Indigo, Chapters and Coles stores across Canada, and the Genghis Indigo card works in Canada only. Check the country before you buy.
Bottom line
Use the Check Gift Card Balance link on Indigo’s gift cards page or your Indigo account, with the 20-digit number and 6-digit PIN. A store purchase needs no PIN.
When the balance falls short and your money is in crypto, buy a new card in a value from 5 CAD to 500 CAD and pay from your wallet, with no KYC at checkout.
