How to Check Your Vanilla Visa Gift Card Balance

• Updated November 2, 2026

How to check a Vanilla Visa gift card balance with the card number and security code or by phone, why a balance can look wrong, how the US and Canadian cards differ, and how to buy a new card with Bitcoin, USDT or 300+ coins, no KYC at checkout.

Vanilla Visa gift card balance being checked on a phone, next to a crypto wallet ready to buy a new prepaid card

Check a Vanilla Visa gift card balance by calling the number on the back, or on the issuer’s website with the 16-digit card number and security code.

Visa Canada gives two routes for any Visa gift card: the toll-free number on the back of the card, or the issuer’s website with the 16-digit card number and the security code. The card details come from the card, or from the delivery email if the card was bought online. This guide separates the US Vanilla Visa card from the Canadian one, because each redeems only in its own country.

It follows the Visa Canada balance page and the live Genghis product pages, all read on 2 November 2026. It covers how to check the balance, why the figure can look wrong, how the US and Canadian cards differ, and how to buy a new Vanilla Visa card with Bitcoin, USDT or 300+ other coins when your money sits in a wallet.

Balance low, or card not in your hand?

Buy a Vanilla Visa card with Bitcoin, USDT or 300+ other coins. The Canadian card has 22 values from 5 CAD to 1,000 CAD and is in stock today. No KYC at checkout, and your code appears on screen as soon as the payment confirms on the network. See the Vanilla Visa Canada card

How to check your Vanilla Visa gift card balance

Call the toll-free number printed on the back of the card, or use the issuer’s website. Visa Canada says both routes work with the card details, and neither needs an account.

Online on the issuer’s website

Visa Canada says to check online through the card issuer’s website, entering the 16-digit card number and the security code. The page returns what is left on the card.

Type the details only on the issuer’s page. Search results are full of look-alike balance sites run by third parties, and a card number entered there can be spent by someone else.

By phone

Visa Canada says a toll-free number is typically printed on the back of a Visa gift card, and that number reads the balance to you. Keep the card in your hand during the call.

Where the three details are

The card number is the long number across the front of a plastic card, and the security code is on the back. A card bought on Genghis shows all three on screen and in the delivery email, so the email is your reference until the balance reaches zero.

Why a Vanilla Visa balance can look wrong

A balance usually looks wrong because of a mistyped detail, a card that was never registered, or a purchase that has not settled. Each has a quick check.

A digit is off

Copy the details from the card or the email, not from a photo or a note. One wrong digit returns an error instead of a figure.

The card is not registered

The Genghis product pages tell buyers to register the card at the Vanilla website if the issuer asks for it, then set the billing address. An online store that cannot match the billing address to the card declines the payment even when the balance is fine.

A recent purchase is still pending

A merchant can place a temporary hold or settle a purchase a day or two later. If the figure is lower than expected, check again after the purchase settles and keep the receipt.

The card has reached its expiry date

The US card sold on Genghis stays valid for twelve months from issue, according to its product page. After that date the card cannot be spent, so spend the balance first. The Canadian card shows its own expiry date when the code is delivered, and that date is the one to follow.

The US and Canadian Vanilla Visa cards are separate products

Each Vanilla Visa card redeems only in its own country: the US card is in dollars for the United States, and the Canadian card is in Canadian dollars for Canada. The Genghis pages state the difference on the page, and the table sets the two side by side as read on 2 November 2026.

Detail Vanilla Visa 12M USA Vanilla Visa Canada

Buy the card that matches where you will spend it. A US card does not become a Canadian one at checkout, so read the region line on the product page before you pay. The US page offers an email alert that sends one message when a value is back in stock.

What a Vanilla Visa card pays for

A Vanilla Visa card pays online and in store anywhere the Visa network is accepted, up to the value loaded on it. The Genghis Canadian page words it as anything you can pay for with a Visa card online in Canadian dollars.

For online shopping, enter the card number, expiry date and security code at checkout, plus the billing address you set when registering. A card does not fund a bank account and it is not reloadable on Genghis: when the balance runs out, you buy a new one.

Why buy a new Vanilla Visa card with crypto

Buying the card with crypto skips the exchange, the bank transfer and the bank card. If your money sits in a wallet, the usual route means selling coins, waiting for a withdrawal and paying a store by card.

No bank card in the loop

You pay from your own wallet or an exchange balance. No card number, billing address or bank statement line is part of the purchase on Genghis.

No KYC at checkout

No KYC at checkout: an email address is all we ask for. Purchase limits apply, and the how Genghis works page explains the flow. Some prepaid card issuers may ask for ID when you activate the card, and that check belongs to the issuer, not to Genghis.

The code arrives on screen

Your code appears on screen as soon as the payment confirms on the network. We also email you a link to it. How long confirmation takes depends on the coin you pick.

Small and large values

The Canadian card starts at 5 CAD and goes to 1,000 CAD, so a small card covers one online order and a large one covers a bigger bill. Pick the value that matches the spend.

Points on every account order

Orders placed with a free Genghis account earn Genghis Points. The rewards section below has the rules.

How to buy a Vanilla Visa card with crypto in 6 steps

Open the Vanilla Visa page for your country, pick the value and the coin, enter your email, send the amount, and copy the card details once the payment confirms. Each step in detail:

  1. Open the right Vanilla Visa page. Go to the Vanilla Visa Canada card for Canada, or the Vanilla Visa 12M USA card for the United States.
  2. Pick the card value. Choose the face value in Canadian or US dollars that covers your planned spend.
  3. Choose your coin and network. Select Bitcoin, USDT, Solana, Monero or another of the 300+ coins, and the network you will send on.
  4. Enter your email address. This is where the link to your card details goes. No account is required to buy.
  5. Send the exact amount. Copy the address or scan the QR code and send the amount shown, adding any withdrawal fee your wallet or exchange charges.
  6. Copy the card details. Once the payment confirms, the card number, expiry date and security code appear on screen and a link arrives by email. Register the card at the Vanilla website if asked, then set your billing address.

Match the card to your country

The US card is sold out on the day this guide was read. The Canadian card is in stock, and it works in Canada only. Neither is a worldwide (WW) product, so a card bought for one country will not pay in the other.

Vanilla Visa values on Genghis

Genghis sells the Canadian Vanilla Visa card in 22 values and the US card in 29 values, as listed on the live product pages on 2 November 2026. The price in crypto is shown at checkout and moves with exchange rates.

Other prepaid cards are in the crypto prepaid cards category, including the Prepaid Mastercard Canada card. The Canadian shopping gift cards category has store cards for Canada.

Four ways to get a Vanilla Visa card when you hold crypto

With crypto in hand, buying the card directly is the shortest route, while cashing out first or using a crypto debit card also work. The table compares the routes by category, including the one where a bank card wins.

Route What you need Identity checks Where it wins
Sell crypto on a custodial exchange, then buy a card in a shop Exchange account, bank account, bank card, a store visit Usually full ID verification at the exchange Cash or a bank card is accepted everywhere
Crypto debit card A card program account and a funded balance Usually ID verification by the card issuer Spends at any shop that takes cards, with no second card
Pay with a bank debit card A bank account and a card Handled by your bank No prepaid card at all, if your money is already in a bank
Buy the prepaid card with crypto on Genghis A wallet or exchange balance and an email address No KYC at checkout, within the purchase limits Straight from wallet to a card with a fixed budget

The honest trade-off: a crypto debit card is always topped up from one balance, while a prepaid card has a fixed value that caps the spend. A single-use budget is often the point, for example when paying a site you do not fully trust.

Canada ranks #2 of 79 countries on the Rails Ranking but #36 on the Livability Ranking, where need for crypto counts (Genghis Research, 2026). Spending rails are strong there, so a prepaid card adds a short path from wallet to an online checkout. The Canada Crypto Livability Index page has the full scoreboard.

Need a second prepaid card for Canada?

The Prepaid Mastercard Canada card is paid with Bitcoin, USDT or 300+ coins, with no KYC at checkout. See the Prepaid Mastercard Canada card

Which crypto to pay with

Pay with the coin you already hold: a stablecoin keeps the value steady, Solana confirms sooner than Bitcoin, and Monero keeps the payment private. Genghis accepts 300+ cryptocurrencies. The amount in your coin is shown before you pay. It includes our exchange-rate margin; a network cost applies only to USDT on Tron and to Monero.

Bitcoin (BTC)

The default for many holders. The code appears once the Bitcoin network confirms your payment. The Bitcoin gift card page covers the details.

USDT and USDC

Stablecoins keep the dollar value steady between quote and payment. USDT on Tron adds a network cost that checkout shows before you choose. See buying gift cards with USDT.

Solana (SOL)

Solana confirms sooner than Bitcoin, so it suits buyers who do not want to wait for Bitcoin blocks. The Solana gift card page lists how it works.

Ethereum (ETH)

Supported on the networks listed at checkout. Pick the network your wallet holds the coins on, since coins sent on a different network can be lost. The Ethereum gift card page has the list.

Monero (XMR)

For buyers who want the payment itself to stay private. Monero adds a network cost of $2.35 that checkout shows before you choose it. The Monero gift card page explains how it works.

How to use the card once you have the details

Use the card number, expiry date and security code at an online checkout that takes Visa, after registering the card and setting the billing address if the issuer asks. The card then pays until the balance runs out.

Check the balance before a large order, and split a bill if the total is higher than the card. Many online stores accept a second payment method for the difference, but some require the card to cover the whole order, so the balance check saves a failed payment.

Is a Vanilla Visa card bought with crypto safe

Yes, as long as the card is for you or a gift, never a payment someone demands. Nobody legitimate asks to be paid in prepaid cards for a tax bill, a fine or an emergency, and card details shared with a stranger can be spent by them.

On the Genghis side, payments are non-custodial: Genghis never holds your crypto. The security page documents what data is kept, and the AML and purchase limits page sets out the limits. If a code fails, the refund policy sets out what happens next.

Earn Genghis Points on the purchase

Yes, orders placed with a free Genghis account earn Points, and a new account starts with 100 Points. A Point is worth $0.01 of discount at checkout, the balance never expires, and there is no KYC to earn or redeem.

Points become spendable once your account has $25 in completed orders. Guest checkouts do not earn Points. The Genghis rewards page has the full rules.
