Redeem a Steam gift card on the Steam redeem page: sign in, enter the code, and the value lands in your Steam Wallet.

This is how to redeem a Steam gift card or a Steam Wallet code, whether it is a plastic card from a shop or a digital code bought online. Steam says you must be signed in to a Steam account to redeem, and its official redeem page is the one place the code goes. The steps below were checked against that page on 5 November 2026.

The guide also covers why a code can refuse to redeem, what happens to the currency, what the balance pays for, and how to buy a new Steam Wallet code with Bitcoin, USDT or 200+ other coins when your money sits in a crypto wallet. Genghis product details were read on the live product pages on 8 November 2026.

Need a new Steam Wallet code?

Steam Wallet codes for US accounts were in stock on Genghis in 5, 20, 30 and 50 USD on 8 November 2026, from $5.78. Pay with Bitcoin, USDT or 200+ other coins, with no KYC at checkout. See the Steam USA gift card

How to redeem a Steam gift card, step by step

To redeem a Steam gift card, sign in to Steam, open the redeem page, type the code and confirm; the funds are added to your Steam Wallet. The same page handles physical gift cards and digital Steam Wallet codes.

  1. Sign in to your Steam account. Use the account you want the money on. A code is tied to the account that redeems it, so check the account name before you continue.
  2. Open the redeem page. Go to the Steam gift card and wallet code redeem page in a browser, or open it from the wallet section of your account in the Steam client.
  3. Find the code. On a plastic card the code sits under a scratch strip on the back. A digital code sits in the email or on the screen where you bought it.
  4. Type or paste the code. Enter it exactly as shown, including any dashes. Paste rather than retype when you can, since one wrong character returns an error.
  5. Confirm. Press continue and follow any prompt Steam shows. When the code is accepted, Steam shows the amount added.
  6. Check your wallet balance. The new total shows next to your account name and on the redeem page. Spend it in the store like any other wallet funds.

On a phone

On a phone, open the same redeem page in the browser and sign in, because the redeem form is a web page. The Steam app and the browser use the same account, so the balance appears in both.

In the Steam desktop client

In the desktop client, the wallet section of your account opens the same redeem form inside the client. The result is identical to the browser route.

Wallet code or game key?

A Steam Wallet code adds money to your balance. A game key unlocks one game and is activated as a product in the Steam client, not on the wallet redeem page. If a code is refused, check which of the two you have.

Physical card, digital code or digital gift card

All three put money in a Steam Wallet, but only the physical card and the digital code are redeemed with a code. Steam’s gift card page lists both digital and physical cards.

Type How it arrives How it is redeemed
Physical Steam gift card Bought in a shop, code under a scratch strip Steam says a physical card can be redeemed to your account at any time, on the redeem page
Digital Steam Wallet code Bought online, code on screen or by email Typed or pasted on the same redeem page
Digital gift card sent through Steam Sent by a friend from their own Steam account No code: Steam adds the funds to your wallet once you accept it
Steam Wallet code bought on Genghis Code on screen after the payment confirms, plus an email with a link to it Redeemed on the Steam redeem page like any digital code

What happens to the currency when you redeem

Steam converts a gift card or wallet code to the currency of your Steam Wallet when you redeem it, according to its redeem page read on 5 November 2026. The note on that page says this applies regardless of where the card was bought.

Genghis lists each Steam card by the store region named on its product page, and the page says which accounts it works for. The Steam USA card is for accounts set to the United States, the Steam EU card for accounts in 20 countries, and the Steam India card for accounts set to India. Buy the one that matches your account’s country, and if a code will not redeem, the troubleshooting section below covers what to check.

Why a Steam code may not redeem

A Steam code usually fails because of a typo, a code already used, the wrong account, a game key, or a card for another region. Each has a quick check.

A character typed wrong

Letters such as O and the number 0, or I and 1, are easy to mix up on a scratched card. Copy the code from the screen or email where you can, and type it again slowly from a physical card.

A code already redeemed

A code works once. If someone else in the household redeemed it, the funds sit in their account. Ask before you assume the card was faulty.

Signed in to the wrong account

Many players keep two accounts. Check the account name at the top of the page before you confirm, because a redeemed code cannot be moved to another account.

A game key, not a wallet code

A game key is activated as a product in the Steam client. Entering it on the wallet page returns an error even though the key is valid.

A card bought for another store region

Each Steam card on Genghis names the accounts it works for on its product page. If the region on the page does not match your account, open a request in the Help Center with your order number before you try again, because a wrong region on our page is refunded.

What a Steam Wallet balance pays for

A Steam Wallet balance pays for games, software, hardware and any other item you can buy on Steam, as the Steam gift card page states. It works like a gift certificate inside Steam.

Topic What to know
Where to redeem The Steam redeem page, signed in to your account
What it buys Games, software, hardware and other items sold on Steam
Currency Converted to the currency of your Steam Wallet on redemption, per Steam
Physical cards Can be redeemed to your account at any time, per Steam
Genghis US card 5, 20, 30 and 50 USD in stock on 8 November 2026, from $5.78
Genghis EU card 5, 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 EUR in stock on 8 November 2026, from $6.14
Refunds on Genghis A code that fails at first redemption is replaced or refunded, as the refund policy sets out

Wallet funds stay inside Steam. They do not turn back into cash or crypto, so buy the value you plan to spend. The guide to buying a Steam gift card with crypto covers regions and values in more depth.

Why buy a Steam gift card with crypto

Buying a Steam Wallet code with crypto moves money from your wallet into Steam in one checkout, with no bank card. Four reasons come up most often.

No bank card in the loop

You pay from your own wallet or an exchange balance. The purchase needs no card number, no billing address and leaves no bank statement line.

No KYC at checkout

No KYC at checkout: an email address is all we ask for. There is no document upload and no selfie. Purchase limits apply, and the how Genghis works page walks through the flow.

The code arrives on screen

Your code appears on screen as soon as the payment confirms on the network. We also email you a link to it. The wait depends on the network of the coin you choose.

Small values for one game

The Steam USA card starts at 5 USD and the Steam EU card at 5 EUR, so you can buy the amount one game or one sale needs instead of a large balance.

How to buy a Steam gift card with crypto in 6 steps

Open the Steam card for your account’s region, pick the value and the coin, enter your email, send the amount, and copy the code once the payment confirms. Each step in detail:

  1. Open the Steam card for your region. Go to the Steam USA gift card, the Steam EU gift card or the Steam India gift card on Genghis, or browse the gaming gift cards for other regions.
  2. Pick the card value. Choose the value you plan to spend. Values out of stock are marked on the page.
  3. Choose your coin and network. Select Bitcoin, USDT, Solana, Monero or another of the 200+ coins, and the network you will send on.
  4. Enter your email address. This is where the link to your code goes. No account is required to buy.
  5. Send the exact amount. Copy the address or scan the QR code and send the amount shown. Your wallet or exchange may add its own withdrawal fee.
  6. Copy your code and redeem it. Once the payment confirms, the code appears on screen and a link arrives by email. Paste it on the Steam redeem page.

Steam cards on Genghis, by region

On 8 November 2026 the Steam USA, EU and India cards were in stock on Genghis, and the UK card was out of stock. The price in crypto is shown at checkout and moves with exchange rates.

Card Accounts it works for Values in stock on 8 November 2026 From
Steam USA Accounts set to the United States 5, 20, 30 and 50 USD $5.78
Steam EU Accounts in 20 countries, listed on the page 5, 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 EUR $6.14
Steam India Accounts set to India 17 values from 130 to 5,000 INR $1.63
Steam UK Accounts set to the United Kingdom Out of stock Not available

Not a worldwide card

Steam cards on Genghis are sold per store region, not as worldwide (WW) cards. Check the accounts named on the product page before you pay.

Four ways to fund a Steam Wallet from a crypto wallet

With crypto in hand, buying a Steam Wallet code directly is the shortest route, while selling coins first or using a crypto debit card also work. The table sets the routes side by side, including one where a bank card wins.

Route What you need Identity checks Where it wins
Sell crypto on a custodial exchange, then pay Steam by bank card Exchange account, bank account, bank card Usually full ID verification at the exchange Pays for anything, not only Steam
Crypto debit card at the Steam checkout A card program account and a funded balance Usually ID verification by the card issuer Spends wherever cards are accepted
Bank card at the Steam checkout A bank card None at checkout Simplest if your money is already in a bank
Buy a Steam Wallet code with crypto on Genghis A wallet or exchange balance and an email address No KYC at checkout, within the purchase limits Straight from wallet to a Steam code, from 5 USD or 5 EUR

A debit card spends everywhere, and a Steam code spends on Steam only. If Steam is where the money goes anyway, the code is the shorter path from wallet to library.

The United States ranks #3 of 79 countries on the Rails Ranking but #32 on the Livability Ranking, where need for crypto counts (Genghis Research, 2026). The spending rails are there, and a Steam code adds a short path from wallet to game library. The United States Crypto Livability Index page has the full scoreboard.

Which crypto to pay with

Pay with the coin you already hold: a stablecoin keeps the value steady, Solana confirms sooner than Bitcoin, and Monero keeps the payment private. The amount in your coin is shown before you pay. It includes our exchange-rate margin; a network cost applies only to USDT on Tron and to Monero.

Bitcoin (BTC)

Bitcoin is the default for many holders. The code appears once the Bitcoin network confirms your payment. The Bitcoin gift card page covers the details.

USDT and USDC

Stablecoins keep the dollar value steady between quote and payment, which suits a card priced in dollars or euros. USDT on Tron adds a network cost that checkout shows before you choose. See buying gift cards with USDT and the USDC gift card page.

Solana (SOL)

Solana suits buyers who want to avoid waiting on Bitcoin blocks. The Solana gift card page lists how it works.

Ethereum (ETH)

Ethereum is supported on the networks listed at checkout. Pick the network your wallet actually holds the coins on, since coins sent on a different network can be lost.

Monero (XMR)

Monero is for buyers who want the payment itself to stay private. It adds a network cost shown at checkout. The Monero gift card page explains how it works.

Is it safe

Yes, as long as the code is for your own account or a gift, never a payment someone demands. Nobody legitimate asks to be paid in Steam cards for a tax bill, a fine or an emergency, and a code shared with a stranger can be redeemed by them. Treat the code like cash.

On the Genghis side, payments are non-custodial: Genghis never holds your crypto. The security page documents what data is kept, and the AML and purchase limits page sets out the limits. If a code fails, the refund policy sets out what happens next.

Earn Genghis Points on the purchase

Yes, orders placed with a free Genghis account earn Points, and a new account starts with 100 Points. A Point is worth $0.01 of discount at checkout, the balance never expires, and there is no KYC to earn or redeem.

Points become spendable once your account has $25 in completed orders. Guest checkouts do not earn Points. The Genghis rewards page has the full rules.

Are there any fees?

The amount in your coin is shown before you pay. It includes our exchange-rate margin; a network cost applies only to USDT on Tron and to Monero. Your own wallet or exchange may charge a withdrawal fee.

Which Steam card should I buy for my account?

Buy the card whose product page names your account’s country: the US card for accounts set to the United States, the EU card for the 20 countries it lists, the India card for accounts set to India.

What if my Steam code does not work?

Check the code, the account and whether it is a game key first. A code that fails at first redemption, arrives incomplete or never arrives is replaced, or refunded if no replacement comes within 5 business days; report it within 30 days. Open a request in the Genghis Help Center with your order number.

Bottom line

Redeem a Steam gift card on the Steam redeem page, signed in to the account you want the money on, and the value goes straight to your Steam Wallet. Most failed codes come down to a typo, the wrong account or a game key in the wrong box.

When the wallet runs low and your money is in crypto, buy a new Steam Wallet code for your account’s region and pay from your wallet, with no KYC at checkout.
